This message is for new Christian converts, who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ, to help discover what is next in the Christian walk. Jesus expects people who believe and trust in Him, as their Savior and their Lord, to actively live and demonstrate their faith continually, no matter what. Water baptism publicly declares your faith in Jesus, where you personally identify with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. See Acts 2:38.
Once you have placed your faith in Jesus, your destiny and life are now tied to Him. "For in him we live, and move, and have our being..." Acts 17:28. God has reconciled you by Jesus. You are to die to self, and to live through Christ, by putting off the old man, and putting on the new man, by now living through Jesus Christ. See 2 Corinthians 5:17. "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Galatians 5:24, 2:20. You have been saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ and in His Blood and Finished Work. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Ephesians 2:8.
Jesus is looking for not just followers, but disciples who really know Him and will be obedient to serve Him. A disciple is personally known by The Lord Jesus. When you spend time, diligently seeking God, and Jesus, by continually reading The Word Of God, Jesus calls you His Disciple. You are to be disciplined to diligently study, learn, and do God's Word. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. "...If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32. "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:21-22. Keep yourself unspotted from the world. See James 1:27. Love not the world. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." 1 John 2:15-17. Hunger after God's Righteousness and Kingdom.
Spend time in prayer, and Bible Study, to hear from God and have communion with God. "...in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." Psalm 16:11. The key to the Christian life is to continually be in His Presence, learning from His Wisdom, acknowledging Jesus as Your Lord.Everything that you need in life, has already been provided by The Father, through Jesus Christ. You are to draw everything through Jesus Christ, always identifying with Him. "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19. As you get to learn all the promises that God has waiting for you to identify with, and take hold of, through Christ, you will be a faithful disciple and servant of The Lord Jesus Christ, if you do what God says. "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." 1 Corinthians 4:2. God's Word is your spiritual food. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:" Proverbs 3:5-11. Be delighted in The Lord.
