There are many forces, both seen and unseen, at work in our world, some for good, and some for evil.

It is my desire to share with you, gentle reader, my observations about what I believe is going on in our world today, that being a War On Humility. We, unfortunately, live in a culture where evil is flourishing because too many good men (and women) are doing nothing to thwart it. Prayer is one of our greatest weapons, and should be used often to stop the evil devices of our enemy, the devil.

The world is running its course into moral and spiritual depravity, because we, as a society, have gotten so self-focused, instead of heavenly focused. Many people are now "only concerned about themselves" and could "care less" about their neighbor, and others around them.

Woe to a society that ignores God's commands and instructions on how to properly live and treat one another! It is doomed to failure.

Only when we grab "the horns of the altar" in prayer, and cry out to our Creator, can we truly change things for the better in our world.

There are currently over a hundred thousand people who die each day in the world. As of mid-2006, the world population was 6.555 billion people, and on average 161,630 people die each day (according to the latest statistics from The Population Bureau).

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.

May you understand and grab hold of your own personal responsibility concerning the events going on in the world, and work (through prayer) to change things for the better. Educate yourself on the instructions from God given in His Word, and put His principles into action! Truly, the Lord was right when He said: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." (Hosea 4:6). May you have a closer walk with the Lord.

1. War On Humility

There is a battle going on, and many people aren't aware of it. It is both a spiritual and physical battle. There is an enemy, and a victorious, conquering side ("the good guys"). It is truly good versus evil. The evil side is led by Satan (the devil), and he is trying to so pollute the earth, and the people of the earth, with his polluted and perverse ways. The struggle started as a rebellion against humility, and it continues to try and persuade as many as possible to sin, and disregard and abandon humility. Its ultimate goal is to eternally separate souls (people) from God.

You see, the opposite of humility is pride. Pride wants to take unlawful or illegal control, usually violently, of something or someone. Satan led a rebellion, along with some angels who followed him, against God. He mistakenly thought he could ascend above God, and take over God's throne. Pride was found in him.

God dealt swiftly and severely with Satan due to his rebellion. God cast him out Heaven. The Lord said, "...I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." (Luke 10:18). Rebellion of any kind can not be tolerated in God's Kingdom or in His House. "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft..." (1 Samuel 15:23).

"...Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more." Ezekiel 28:12-19.

"Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; ... But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet." Isaiah 14:11-16,19.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud." Proverbs 16:18-19.

2. The Enemy's Devices

We are to not be ignorant of the enemy's devices, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." (2 Corinthians 2:11). Satan goes about like a roaring lion seeking those who he may devour: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" (1 Peter 5:8).

The devil doesn't play fair, nor does he care who he hurts or injures. He has a nature of destruction and iniquity, and he wants to deceive, and even kill you, if he can. He is not your friend, and not to be trusted, as he is called the "father of lies" (John 8:44).

He has many followers who, willingly or unwillingly, are walking after him on a path of destruction that will lead to death and eternal separation from God. Due to the fall in the Garden of Eden, there is a default sin nature from birth that exists. The Bible is correct when it calls all those who have not yet been redeemed by faith in Christ: "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44)

We need Salvation from God through Jesus Christ to redeem us from the curse of sin and death that we are born under by default. Without Christ, we have no hope of eternal life with God. It is not by works that we are saved, but by faith (Romans 3:27, 9:32). "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Galatians 2:16). "...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..." (Acts 16:31).

The enemy loves to tell people lies like "there are many paths to God" and "Jesus was a good teacher, but he is not the Son of God." The enemy wants us to be confused in our faith, have unbelief, and generally be deceived when it comes to the truths of God. Satan is a liar, murderer and thief. He loves to steal your life, health, joy, hope, and God's perfect plans for your life. He wants to abort and sabotage your life from being productive, truthful, and pleasing to God.

Our Adversary's devices are many, but the outcome for all of them is the same in the end. Satan hates God, and everything and everyone that reminds him of God. Since we were created in the "image of God", Satan hates us too. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Genesis 1:27).

God gives us His plan for how we are to resist and overcome the devices of the devil:

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Ephesians 6:10-13.

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper..." Isaiah 54:17.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7.

There are many benefits to resisting the devil, including that he will flee from you. Whenever you feel under attack from the devil, purposely resist these attacks, and start quoting protective Scripture verses to defeat his attacks. Get "so filled" with Scripture verses, that you will "have an answer" for any attack the devil chooses to mount against you. Just as Jesus quoted Scripture and said, "It is written..." to answer every temptation that Satan tried to use against Him, so you need to do the same and have Scripture memorized and ready to use against any temptation or attack the devil throws at you. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you!

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." Proverbs 3:5-7.

Having an unshaken trust in the Lord is essential to properly being led by Him. As you acknowledge Him for "Who He Is", you will find that He takes care of many things on your behalf. He is looking for people who will trust and acknowledge Him. Stand on this verse to receive many positive results and blessings!

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us." 1 John 4:18-19 [note: emphasis is mine].

It is only with God's perfect love that we may cast out fear. When the enemy tries to use fear to control, manipulate or frighten us, we have a weapon in the perfect love of God that will always cast out all fear. Use it often, draw nigh to God, and drink of His perfect love for you. Get so filled up with the Love of God, that nothing else can touch you or satisfy you. Abiding in His Love will strengthen our faith in Him.

Now for one of my favorite verses, that speaks of the protection of God, to all those who dwell in "The Secret Place Of The Most High" and abide In His Presence, and who walk after His Righteousness. Allow Psalm 91 to soak into your soul and spirit and refresh you continually:

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation." Psalm 91.

3. Deception and Denial

First off, the enemy wants us to believe that there is no war on humility going on. If we are fooled into believing that we are not under attack, we are not likely to fight against what the devil is doing.

He would like people to either believe that God does not exist, or else blame God for all the evil and bad things that go on in the world. By shifting the blame for all his work on the earth onto God, the devil keeps deceiving people about what is really going on, and who is really to blame. Unfortunately, people often believe a lie instead of searching for the truth. It is the same with gossip. Someone's reputation and name may be devoured and destroyed, without anyone checking if the statements are true or not.

Satan lied to Eve in the Garden of Eden. He offered her, with his words, the very poison of hell. It was the same poison of pride, which got him cast out of Heaven, that he was now offering to Eve. When Eve yielded her desire and her will, to the prospect of being as God, knowing good and evil, the poison entered into her soul, blood, and life, destroying forever that blessed humility and dependence upon God which would have been our everlasting happiness. And instead of this, her life, and the life of the race that sprang from her, became corrupted to its very root with that most terrible of all sins and all curses, the poison of Satan's own pride. [For more about humility, see the Revised Edition of Andrew Murray's book titled "Humility" that I edited and published in 2007, available from].

Humility is simply acknowledging the truth that you have been created by God, and also yielding to God His place. It requires total dependence on God, as exemplified by John 15:5, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." The whole "I am nothing without You, Lord" statement sums up a true attitude of humility.

It is when someone tries to say he is above the Creator, and then fails to worship the Creator by refusing to give Him His rightful place, honor and respect, that one falls into the sin of pride.

Woe to him that falls into the jaws of the sin of pride. That sin will separate you from God so fast, as God can't tolerate it when you think you know better than He does in any area. It is the ultimate form of disrespect against our Creator! God can no longer trust us, as our judgment is impaired and we have been deceived.

Yet, that is what Satan is trying to get the world to believe. The devil wants the world to engage in all manner of prideful behavior. For he knows that pride will separate people from God. He knows this from firsthand experience! If he can bewitch and deceive people into thinking that there is no real need for humility, he knows that they will quickly fall into all kinds of prideful and sinful activity.

Look at the war on humility that has been unleashed against our society's morals and beliefs by way of television and movies! Satan is trying to whittle away at the very moral fabric of our society all vestige of hope, humility, and goodness. The morals of our society are caving in all around us, due to the effects of this war being raged against us.

As enough people don't challenge, through prayer, what is going on, evil begins to increase and spread its prideful tentacles around the world. Look at the quality of the movies and entertainment, and see what they are teaching us and our children, and then in good conscience tell me that there is no war on humility.

4. Self versus God

We are suffering great defeat in this war on humility due to the pride of self and the pride of man. Our society has become so "me oriented". We have been deceived to think that everyone and everything revolves around us, and is for our pleasure. This "instant gratification of self" mentality, or what feels good, do it mentality, is causing so much harm to our physical, emotional and spiritual life.

The time honored morals that previous generations held dear, are now being replaced with a "no absolutes" culture that believes that all things are permissible. Truly, "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." (1 Corinthians 10:23). Things may be legal and permissible under our law, but that doesn't mean that they are good or beneficial for us to engage in.

Just because you can engage in sinful behavior, doesn't mean that it is good for you. There are consequences for all our behaviors, whether we choose to believe it or not. The repercussions that our behavior leaves behind can be quite staggering on our future well being. For instance, say you are promiscuous, and end up with an unplanned pregnancy on your hands, that child will not go away, and you will likely have to live with the fruits of your past behavior, that started this matter, for the rest of your life.

Choices can be dangerous, when not bridled by adhering to the commands and laws of God. Without moral absolutes a society will eventually crumble into chaos and anarchy. Humility thinks of God and others first, before thinking of self. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself." (Luke 10:27). Many people unfortunately have become lovers of self, without any regard for the well being of their fellow man.

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2 Timothy 3:1-7.

Some people hate the Holy Bible because the book is about them. The Holy Bible convicts them of what will happen to them if they disobey God's laws and instructions. Walk into any public place with a Bible under your arm and watch people scatter! Try it in a restaurant, movie theater, casino, or any place other than a church, and see what results you get from the people there. People will likely feel convicted (of sin) just by knowing that someone is carrying a Bible around them. Even without reading one word from the Bible out loud, all it takes is a glance at a Bible to send some people "running for the doors" to get away from the conviction that seeing the Bible represents to them.

When the written Word of God is presented to people, either by them reading it, or having it taught to them, the Word should change them for the better. Conviction of sin normally comes first, for without the law they would not know they were sinners in need of a savior. Then instruction comes to help them receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, followed by intensive seeking and teaching in the ways of Holy living and God's righteousness.

5. The Benefits Of Humility

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." Psalm 103:2-5. [note: emphasis is mine]

"...Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:5-7.

God cares for us. He wants us to be in health and to prosper. He doesn't want us to fall into the snares of the enemy, but rather to live life to the fullest for His Glory and His Name's Sake. God wants a constant abiding relationship between Him and us. He is the true vine, and we are the branches. We must not remove ourself from the sustenance of the true vine, or we will wither and die (in our sins).

Sin is separation from God, and we must ask God for His help so that we may remain in His Presence, abiding with Him at all times. We need His protection, direction and help, so that we may overcome this world and the things that would otherwise desire us to fail in our Christian walk.

Humility is both allowing and recognizing God to be our source for everything in our life. Without Him we are nothing!

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28.

"But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Matthew 23:11-12.

"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3-4.

6. What Can Be Done

"Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." Psalm 24:3-5.

"...Be ye holy; for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). Ask Christ for His help and His strength, so that you may be Holy. Holy living is a virtue, and should be greatly desired, above the temporal things of this world.

"Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you." (Leviticus 20:7-8). It is through Christ that we may be holy. He gives us the ability to rise above sin and walk in a holy, upright manner. The Holy Spirit is our guide as we walk in holiness.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Imagine the power and shaking that would happen to a nation (our nation) if we as a people would humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and repent of our sins. If we would become "God Chasers" or "Seekers after Him and His Righteousness," then there would be no stopping us from doing great exploits in His Name.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13. Nothing shall be impossible.

God desires us to be be whole and be healed. He wants us to spend all eternity with Him in His Presence and in His Kingdom. There shall no more be darkness or night, but instead we shall all bask eternally in His Light. Humility is the key to experiencing an invitation for eternal peace to be with God. We must not "break rank" with God here on this earth, so that we are found worthy to spend eternity with Him in His Kingdom.

"And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 22:1-5.
