Sins

This writing is all about various types of sin. It is a discovery and an examination of the topic of sins, and how each and every sin we allow or engage in serves to separate us from the right relationship with God.

Sin is defined in the New Oxford American Dictionary as "an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law : a sin in the eyes of God." Sin always means "a separation from God." God can not permit sin to exist around Him. That is why, when we sin, we lose access, at least for a season, to the Presence of God. We must repent of sins to get proper access back to God through Christ.

We, as Christians, or followers of Christ, are commanded by God Almightly to live our lives according to His Righteousness and not sin: "Awake to righteousness, and sin not; ..." 1 Corinthians 15:34. We are not permitted to commit sins, including sins of commission (sinful actions) and sins of omission (sinful failure to perform actions).

Nothing Can Separate Us From God Other Than Sin

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39.

We can be enticed by created beings to sin, but only we can actually sin, by our action or lack of action. All descendants of Adam were born with a sin curse, the ultimate of generational curses. Only Christ's sacrifice on Calvary can make atonement for sins, for those who have accepted and truly believe Him.

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4.

The Bible is clear about sin being anything that separates us from God. Sin breaks our right standing, or fellowship, with God. It changes our relationship from one of being accepted, to one of being rejected by God. Sin causes us to become a transgressor of God's laws and commands. We are responsible for our own sins, and we can't escape sin's penalty by shifting the blame to others (i.e. the devil made me do it).

"Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." Isaiah 59:1-2.

Actuals Sins vs. Perceived Sins

There are both actual sins (things we should know are wrong) and perceived sins (which are perceived as sins by others). The perception of sin can hang over an individual, and can be put on them by the accusations or disapproval of others. We know that murder is wrong, but some people may think that if a Christian goes to a horror movie depicting simulated violence and murder, then that is sin. The act of murder is definitely a sin (an acutal sin), but the gray area begins when talking about the merits of the second act described, going to a horror movie, being labelled as a sin. Some people may perceive it to be a sin, while others may not. I recommend you follow the guidelines given in 1 Thessalonias 5:22-23:

"Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." 1 Corinthians 10:23. While God may permit us to do all things, by way of free will, not all things we do are beneficial to ourselves and others. We can reap condemnation upon ourselves by our sinful behavior, decisions, and actions.

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians 6:7.

Only God and you really know if something you are engaged in is sinful or not. You must have His Peace upon whatever activity you are doing at all times. If your conscience has not been seared, then your heart should condemn you of any sinful activity, as confirmed by the Spirit of God inside you.

"Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God." 1 John 3:21.

Go And Sin No More

The law and the commandments convict us of our sins, and let us know that we are sinners. Then we may come to Christ to receive of God's Salvation, which He has provided for us as the way of escape from sin.

We are not designed to keep on sinning after we have received Christ as our Lord and our Savior. Not that we won't or can't sin, but it is not God's perfect will for us to keep on sinning. He calls us to a life of perfection in Christ. "...Be ye holy; for I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1.

If our reasonable service is to live our lives holy and acceptable unto God, then surely God will grant us power by the Holy Spirit to accomplish this task which He has assigned for us to keep. God never gives us an assignment without first providing the provision for us to accomplish it. Some people go off on a journey without first finding and taking hold of the provision that God has provided for the journey.

We are to discover all the promises, blessings, and provision that God has designed for us before we launch out to carry out His assignment and commission for our lives. God wants us to be prepared before we go out. Unfortunately, some people never discover their assignment nor properly prepare.

When Jesus forgave the sins of the the woman caught in adultery described in John 8:3-11, He concluded with the admonishment (and warning) to go and sin no more. In verse 11, Jesus said, "...Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." Jesus knows that sin loves to ensnare the forgiven, so we must all be on guard to watch for offers and enticements to sin again, and avoid them at all costs.

Beware Of The Trap Of Having A Form Of Godliness, But Denying The Power Thereof

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2 Timothy 3:1-7.

Watch out! Be warned! Deviation from the truth is a deception. The enemy (antichrist and false prophet) will be coming in a counterfeit way, even counterfeiting the working of signs, wonders, and miracles:

"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12.

Those who receive not the love of the truth, but instead believe a lie, will be damned, or as the New Oxford American Dictionary defines the word: "(in Christian belief) condemned by God to suffer eternal punishment in hell." The antidote for not being seduced by and following after the antichrist is to have a love for God's truths and His righteousness. We are instructed, for a very good reason to, "...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33. Following after God's truths, which operate and are contained in His Kingdom, and His righteousness, are essential to being blessed by God, and also to being protected from the evil one. God knew there would be evil in the days ahead, so the next verse says, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Matthew 6:34. We are never in the Bible promised a "rose garden" walk with Christ in this life, but rather persecutions. We must work, while it is still day (light), and while truth is evident, for the night is soon coming, when evil shall reign for a season before Christ's return to openly destroy the lawless one (the false prophet): "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:" 2 Thessalonians 2:8.

We need to be so filled with God's truth and His doctrines, and know His standards written in the Word of God, that we are not waylaid by the antichrist, the false prophet, and the enemy. Perilous times are soon to be knocking on our door, and we have been warned by Christ that these things shall soon come to pass:

"And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." Matthew 24:4-14.

For sin (iniquity) shall abound in the last days, according to Jesus Christ. We are seeing all manner of sins raising up their heads in defiance to Christ's laws and truths today. Deception leads people to deviate from the standard of truth that God has set for all of us. We must know God's truths, to avoid being deceived!

There is much deception, unfortunately, creeping into the House of God. Our churches and ministries are being filled with deceptive teachings and behaviors. There are churches with a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5). We are admonished in Scripture "from such turn away." The last thing we need is the spirit of antichrist taking control of our churches, exchanging truth for a lie.

We are to have nothing to do with the fruitless works of ungodliness. They waste our time, talents, and money, and serve to deceive us and lead us astray from the truth. If the true Power of God, demonstrated by the Presence and anointing of God, is not in the House, we had better find a true House of God to worship in, and learn about God's truths. Be wary of any church that waters down the Gospel, or teaches that the blood of Christ is not necessary or important (see Hebrews 9:22). Without the blood of Christ, that was shed for us who believe, there is no remission of sins. A church service is not to be about entertainment or excellency of speech, nor should the speaking "tickle your ears" (2 Timothy 4:3).

"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." 2 Timothy 4:1-5.

Watch out for those who lead people astray or who tell you what you want to hear (or tickle your ears). Without correction and reproof spoken rightly using the Word of God, how can we be changed for the good? If we are always told what we want to hear (get rich, enjoy life, the devil isn't real, sin is relative, sin has no consequences, do whatever makes you feel good, etc.), we are being deceived and being led astray from the truth of God. Test everything to see if the truth (of God) is present in it or not!

Seek truth above all things. For deception can be subtle and creep in upon you unawares. Pray and ask God to reveal His Truth to you, and watch all the untruths and lies begin to unravel and scatter.

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not." John 8:44-45. Also, we find in 1 John 2:4, an important revelation about truth and knowing God:

"He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

Jesus Our Substitute

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 2 Corinthians 5:21. The good news is that Christ paid our debt for our sins with His blood on the cross at Calvary. We need only to continue to believe in Him, and ask Him to forgive us of our sins. He longs to be our Savior, our Redeemer, and our Soon Coming King. All He is waiting on, is us to accept this great sacrifice that He willingly paid on our behalf. We need to continue to believe on Him, in faith, without wavering, to receive the promises He has laid before us. There is no other name, or way, by which we can be saved apart from Jesus Christ, the one and only true Son of God:

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6.

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:14-18.

Homecoming

"Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth" Luke 15:10.

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." Romans 6:22.

God is calling all who desire to be saved from the bondages of sin to enter into the freedom that only Christ can give. God wants us to be restored through Christ's sacrifice on Calvary, back to the proper and right relationship with the Creator of the Universe. For apart from God, we are nothing, but in Him we live, move and have our being. "For in him we live, and move, and have our being..." Acts 17:28.

I want to spend eternity discovering the goodness and character of God. I want to sit at His feet and learn about Him. It is my desire to worship and adore Him, and marvel at His nature and His wonderous works.

My prayer is that you will, likewise, know Christ, and desire to serve Him and spend eternity with Him.

Do you want Jesus Christ to be ashamed of how you conduct yourself concerning Him in this life?

"Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." Mark 8:38.

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." 2 Peter 2:4-22.

Are we ashamed of Christ? If we are not ashamed of Christ, why do we continue to dishonor Him through our continual acts of sinning and rebelling against His ways? "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" Isaiah 5:20. You can try to dress sin up all you like, and it is still sin. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can erase the penalty for the sins you may have committed. Run to Jesus and get cleansed today!

The Bible tells us that Anger is like the sin of Murder, and Lust is like Adultery, and that pride goeth before a fall. Perversity is the fruit of sin, while perfection in the Lord is the fruit of God's righteousness. We must tune the spirit man within us to the correct channel, to avoid the "sin channels," and instead be tuned to receive the "righteousness channels" from God. I encourage you to obtain and read all of my writings to help you in your overcoming victory against all manners of sin in your life. May God deliver you out of all bondages of sin, and bring you through Christ to a place of absolute freedom in Him. Stop and pray now, and confess all your sins openly to God. Ask for forgiveness of all your sins through Jesus Christ. Forgive those who have hurt or deceived you, and ask God for a new beginning today in life.
