The Holy Bible mentions 3 baptisms for Christians. This subject has split Churches and denominations. You are encouraged to do detailed study, and pray often, so that God will reveal His Truth about baptisms to you. The word baptism means to fully immerse. Infant baptism, or sprinkling of water, is not found in The Bible. For parents who desire God to bless their child, the dedication of the child to God is appropriate. The person being baptized needs to have a desire to be baptized, and to willingly choose and seek to receive the baptism. The first baptism is when The Holy Spirit baptizes you in Jesus. This occurs when you believe upon Jesus, confessing Him as your Lord. "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body..." 1 Corinthians 12:13. The second baptism is when a disciple baptizes you in water. Water baptism identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus in obedience to Jesus' Command. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:19-20. The third baptism is when Jesus baptizes you in the Holy Spirit. This is Receiving The Holy Spirit, or being baptized in or with The Holy Spirit. "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:" Matthew 3:11. Jesus wants to completely surround and immerse you in The Holy Spirit, completely filling you to overflowing in The Holy Spirit! See Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33. If Jesus needed The Holy Spirit to come upon Him while He was on earth to do ministry, you should receive The Holy Spirit to be properly empowered and equipped to do service for God. The 3 baptisms happen at the following times in the life of a Christian: Baptized in Jesus Christ (born again into The Body Of Christ) at Salvation, at Water Baptism, and at The Baptism In The Holy Spirit. "And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." Acts 1:4-5. "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." Acts 2:37-39. The 3 baptisms mentioned in Acts 2:38 are: Repent (Salvation), Be Water Baptized, and Receive The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is The Promise of The Father, not just for The First Disciples, but to all future generations. "But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost." Acts 8:12-17. In addition to believing upon Jesus and being water baptized, have you received The Baptism In The Holy Spirit? If not, ask Jesus to baptize you with The Holy Spirit. "Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." Acts 19:4-6. You show God that you believe Him, through the blood of Christ, water baptism, and The Spirit, which bear witness to God. See 1 John 5:5-8. Salvation (New person), Water Baptism (Old person cut off), Holy Spirit (New life Power).
